Goals for Hope Shows Prison Ministry

Ministry to Prison Communities:

  • “Visit” those in prison with music (Matthew 25:36).
  • Promote Christian radio alternatives within the prison community.
  • Promote existing prison ministries serving inmates in each facility.
  • Encourage and entertain inmates with words of hope and healing.

Ministry on Behalf of Prisoners:

  • Build awareness of prison ministry within a new generation of youth and young adults via benefit events.
  • Encourage  church development of in-prison and after-care prison ministries.

Benefits

  • Advance the hope of the Gospel as presented through Christian music in the prison community.
  • Educate prison inmates about healthy, positive media/music alternatives.
  • Facilitate emotional healing and wellness in prison inmates, improving their ability to contribute positively to their prison community.
  • Increase individual and corporate (church and organizations) engagement of prison ministry.

Specifics

  • In partnership with Christian radio, Hope Shows will coordinate prison concerts for state and federal correctional institutions.
  • Christian music radio personnel, existing ministry volunteers (as available per facility) and Hope Shows representatives will participate in each concert.
  • Hope Shows will book, train, promote and raise support for each prison event, in partnership with the local Christian music radio and prison ministries.
  • Hope Shows will provide a “reminder” item for each inmate with info about the radio station, prison ministry partner and Hope Shows.
  • Funding for each event will be provided via radio, prison ministry and donor sponsorships and gifts.
  • Radio and established prison ministries will provide follow-through connections with the prison and its inmates.

Volunteers & Training

Coordinated via Hope Shows. Volunteers will include Hope Shows, radio and prison ministry representatives. Event training will be coordinated with prison officials.

Facilities

  • Gym or auditorium settings large enough to host a 200-400 seat event.
  • Outdoor events are feasible, depending on the weather, but an indoor rain location would be established in advance.

Days/Times

  • Days, TBA and determined by both the prison schedule and artist tour schedule
  • Times, TBA per individual prison schedules, typically evening events

Equipment

  • Musical instruments and gear
  • Moderate sound and light production system
  • Camera equipment (as permitted)

Prison Participation

  • Partnership and permissions
  • Staff security support for event from load in to load out
  • Light dinner meal – finger foods and drinks
